
It has become a custom now, three years running, that Aly and I host the March meeting at our house. Maybe it is Aly subconsciously keeping in touch with her meat upbringing, even though she uses gloves to handle the corned beef, while she cooks the Irish vittles. Regardless, we enjoy the company and plan for it each spring. Besides, it is a short drive home for us after the meeting.....
Here is what we tasted:
*Bunratty Potcheen 45% ABV Unaged new make
-smelled like caramel/cinnamon
-tasted a tinge of rubber with a buttery flavor
-with water smelled lighter with less rubber
-tasted slight sweet with a floral in the middel
-trailed sweet almost citrus with cough syrup at the end
*Merrys Single Malt Irish Whisky 40% ABV Only Irish Single Malt at time
This whisky is not made any longer.
-smelled soapy with apples!
-tasted apples and pepper
-very rubbery!!
-with water smelled sweet floral and caramel
-tasted peppery with something citrus
Surprising flavor!
Erin Go Bragh 40% ABV 6 yr Single Malt- One-off expression from Midleton Distilley
-smelled sweet caramel with light wood
-tasted peppery with slight cherry that rolls to top of mouth
-with water smelled citrusy wood
-tasted sweet wood/oak
-trailed sour oak
*Midleton Very Rare 40% ABV Blend 12-25 yr - John Jameson & Son
-smelled wood with slight sherry and grassy
-caramel hovered over glass
-tasted sweet dough
-trailed sugar cookie with citrus/lemon
-with water caramel/floral
-trailed quickly with slight oak
*"Blend" of the evening - Aly poured what she didn't like into a glass
-smelled soapy citrus with apple
-tasted almost lemony
-with water (more than was already added to each) smelled lemon cleaner
-tasted peppery wood
-killed all the sweet!
Water ruined this.
