Once again the night before the Games began there was a whisky tasting at the Hilltop Restaurant in Orange Park. This year Todd was able to bring in some real talent, whisky talent, who was a great whisky presenter, extremely knowledgable and a heck of a nice guy. Ryan Kohl of Impex Beverages (Grandson of the founder) enriched our whisky experience, shared little known facts and expertly entertained with his enthusiasm and wit. Not a soul in the room, including Myra (we miss her), could help but hang on every word.
-smelled floral, light leather with a touch of cinnamon bun.
-tasted very oaky! dry- left a film in my mouth
-trailed peppery oak very quickly
-with water smelled briny
-tasted like oak in my mouth
-trailed tar with a touch of peat
The tar reminded me of Ardbeg or Lagavulin. This blend includes Talisker, Glengoyne and Linkwood.
-smelled cherry cough syrup with a touch of dessert
-tasted oaky and fruity
-trailed pepper
-with water smelled slight sherry
-tasted bitter wood and sharp like a cabernet
-trailed sweet and quickly
Better without water.
-smelled medicinal leather and slightly briny
-tasted slight peat with leather and oak at the end
-with water smelled sweet leather
-tasted sweeter oak
-trailed peat with intense oak
This is what I wouild expect having tasted the 10 year expression. I might have given it a little more water to open up some sweeter flavors. Next time I will. Unfortunatley I only have one of these on my shelf.
-smelled lemony citrus
-tasted sweet with a touch of saltiness
-trailed peppery, briny oak
-with water smelled very lemony floral
-tasted thick dessert with citrus tones
-very light oak as well
-trailed quickly!
-smelled extremely light cinnamon bun
-tasted thick caramel and cherry cough syrup
-trailed quickly with no pepper
-with water smelled lightly floral
-tasted peppery oak
-began sweet but ended dry
Water ruined this! Also this bottle is 52.9% ABV. I have seen this also at 54.1%ABV. I wonder what the difference is and how it might taste.
-smelled light fruit like apples or pears (no Glenfiddich here)
-tasted very sweet apple pie
-trailed peppery for a long time
-with water smelled sweet fruit
-tasted almost pie crust
-trailed very quickly peppery and a little oak
-smelled tanned leather, peat and floral
-tasted sweet peaty with strong lemon!
-with water smells oak and leather
-tastes light, sweet oak with fruity taste lingering
-takes a longtime to taste peppery wood
Just as good with water as it is without.
